SEEKING FREEDOM

A cry in the night
Afar from distant lands
Hunger pain and fear
Seeking freedom to just exist

Longing for the place
One wants to call home
Learning to cherish each breath
For there is no promise of the next

Struggling to keep safe
Running on even when still
A mind wandering further
Than the desert one finds surrounding

Women, children and men
Driven away from all they knew
Ones own country left
Fleeing to find freedom to be

Cherishing the simplicity
Of life giving water
Seems heaven above is watching out
Others bringing help some with their own life

As we struggle to all find peace
To live together in such a small world
Where do we all define who we are
By what we have or by what we give

Gratitude for all we have
Could be the lesson of each day
Learning that so many have so much less
Carry on as you do remembering to give
In that, finding the reality of what it is to live
