CASTING OFF

Casting off the chains
Bound for so long
By one who thought they knew
All there was to know
Thinking I would never let go

Letting go of what we meant before
No longer applies to what we are now
You could never understand how to be
In the moment for longer than that
Just something you weren't good at

Never understanding why
So difficult to believe
Friendships boundaries crossed too often
Only when convenient for your soul
Forgetting that balance is essential to endure

Casting off the desire to go deeper
Not a possibility without an engaged soul
Seeing the waters edge growing ever deeper
While the fire burns ever smaller
Sadness envelopes the one who walks away

Yet somehow the only way to the next level
Onto new frontiers of discovery
Requires casting off the insensitive souls
So many caught up in their own worlds
So consumed they can't reach out to another

Today is filled with loss and mourning
A promise of tomorrow's new adventure awaits
With another soul familiar to depth in giving
Finding the sharing almost known yet thrown away
By you when you took for granted
Someone who once loved you so
