WITHOUT A WORD

Never letting light reach these depths
Too much pain caused by allowing access
Even the slightest amount of illumination
Disaster took hold here
Never to be disclosed again

Buried within the pools I see
Scared eyes which try to look away
Gentlest ways have never been shown
To the one who has known the most pain
Sailing right by the obvious so many do

So oblivious they go on their way
Too afraid of the currents that might appear
For a drift may occur if one lets in
Giving into the ways of the gentle cleansing of the sea
Between you and I we seek to understand

Seeping into the wreckage
Kindness hurts more than pain
Like ice to the one burned
Struggling against the sweetness in those eyes
Fear running away with the heart

Then the waters part and the healing begins
Rushing in your will broken within strength
Strong arms awaken the tender flesh
Compassion lavishly bestowed and understood
Collapsing within a loving embrace
For I too know these depths having survived them

We both now weather the stormy seas
We come together within the deepest of bonds
Knowing a void which can never be filled
But made easier within the intensity
Of another's eyes who knows without a word
