White lace and promises
You said to me so lovely
Your charm and heart
Seemed so free and sweet
Hollow were your words
That put me under a spell
Did you mean any of it
Or was it just my hell
Never knowing the silent ache
Pain not needed after all that had been
You knew how fragile my heart was
Yet you just walked all over it again
Now I hear similar words
And trust is hard to find
She wants my time
Fill my mind with those words
You just let it slip away not a care
After I shared so much to bare
Why would I trust her after that
How can I allow my heart to open
Feel again after all that has gone before
Her words to me because I am not her
And somehow I want to believe again
But how much can one heart take
Before it permanently breaks
Letting go such a cleansing for the soul
Finding meaning in all that went before
Allowing the comfort of a spirit so similar
Sensing a maturity with which I never saw
In you there was a child yearning to be free
